Captain Jason Shaw said Europe came to London to “win” the Mosconi Cup and claimed the United States were there to “get paid” while vowing to “crush” the visitors at Alexandra Palace.
Europe are aiming for a sensational sixth consecutive victory, having won 15 of their last 18 Mosconi Cup matches since 2007, as they also break the all-time head-to-head record with 17 wins of the coveted trophy, three more than the United States’ 13.
talking sky sportsScotland ace Shaw said: “I don’t think they will stop this decline. The same five players were beaten convincingly last year so I think we know what to do.
“We play our game and get a lead and they crumble. They always do. We can see it in their faces – that’s the difference between us and them! When we fail, we keep fighting, and when they fail, they succumb and we can smell it and see it. If we get off to a good start, we’re going to crush them.
“You’re going to see me showing off my stuff and doing my thing. I’m going to do my Jason Shaw thing. We’re going to win 11-6. I can’t see them getting past six points.
“We’re here to win – they’re here to get paid.”

What is the Mosconi Cup?
Who will lift the famous Mosconi Cup at Alexandra Palace?
Similar to golf’s Ryder Cup, the Mosconi Cup, named after American pool icon Willie Mosconi, brings together the best nine-ball pool players from Europe and the United States to compete against each other in a four-day tournament.
The event was held at the Roller Bowl in Romford in 1994 and featured eight European players, including snooker greats Steve Davis and Jimmy White.
In the early years, the United States dominated the Mosconi Cup, winning 10 of the first 13 editions of the tournament and drawing one. However, Europe has always had the upper hand since 2007 and has only been beaten three times since then.
Europe enter this year’s event at Alexandra Palace as defending champions, having won 11-6 in Orlando, Florida last year and seeking a sixth consecutive victory.
What is the format?
Could Jason Shaw play for Team Europe again?
The format of the Mosconi Cup has changed over the years, but the current format is five players per team competing in singles, doubles and team competition over four days.
Three players automatically qualify for the Mosconi Cup standings, which are calculated based on their performances on the World Nine-Ball Tour throughout the year, with the other two spots filled by their respective captains’ wildcard selections.
The $300,000 event will traditionally begin with a team opener on Wednesday night and end with singles matches on the final day. If the game ends in a 10-10 draw, the captain’s choice will determine the outcome of the final game.
All matches will be played five-a-side, with alternating breaks, and according to World Nine-Ball Tour rules, with each player on the winning team receiving $40,000 in prize money.
