Errol Spence Spots Jermell Charlo Tags

Errol Spence Jr. didn’t read much into Jermell Charlo mentioning his name. For Spencer, this isn’t personal, competitive or even nostalgic. This is financial.

Charlo has been inactive for nearly three years since a one-sided loss to Canelo Alvarez in September 2023. During this time, the market has changed. The fights that once made sense for Charlo no longer exist, and 154’s undisputed influence evaporates when he’s away from the ring.

When asked about Charlo calling him out, Spencer didn’t mince words. With Terrence Crawford no longer playing and Alvarez long gone, the roster that can still generate big checks is short. In Spence’s mind, his own name was one of the last remaining.

Spencer’s Reading on Markup

“Canelo is gone. Terrence is gone. So who is he going to get the big payday from?” Spencer said. fight hype. “That’s the only reason he called me out.”

Spencer also dismissed the idea that there was unfinished business between them. Two shared workouts were instituted in the gym a few years ago under coach Derrick James, and Spence said the results of those workouts were well known within the circle. From his perspective, there are no secrets worth revisiting.

The bigger issue for Charlo is timing. The young warrior now controls the department he once ruled, and he can no longer give orders. Names like Jalen Ennis and Virgil Ortiz Jr. don’t need him, and they won’t wait.

Spencer, who himself has been inactive since losing to Crawford in 2023, didn’t push the idea as fans requested. His point is simpler: Charlo isn’t chasing the best option, but the last meaningful check.

On the surface, this label sounds less like ambition and more like necessity. Charlo’s window as an equal negotiator has closed and he no longer encounters a fight by default. Calling out Spence is not about settling scores. This is to find correlation before the market forgets about him completely.
