Emma Raducanu retired due to illness during her first-round match at the Qatar Open against world number 80 Camilla Osorio.
The British world number one missed out on a chance to win the tournament for the first time since the 2021 US Open in a disappointing Transylvania Open final loss to Sorana Cristia, and it was even more disappointing after withdrawing in the third set against Osorio.
Raducanu cruised to an impressive 6-2 victory in just 37 minutes of the first set before coming under pressure against resurgent Colombian Osorio, who broke serve early in the second set before winning 6-4 and forcing a decider.
The Briton then took a lengthy bathroom break between sets and, after Osorio broke in the first game of the third set, she immediately looked exhausted upon her return, leading Raducanu to request physiotherapy.
After Osorio held on straight away, a dejected Raducanu walked to the net and conceded in the first column that ended her Qatar Open journey.
The world number 25 returned to competition two days after her final match in Romania, and questions about her fitness arose in Qatar.
With Raducanu not included in the WTA Dubai Championships, where the next event is in the Middle East in six days, it remains to be seen where she will compete next.
