The two models are Tesla’s oldest vehicles, and the company has slashed prices in recent years as global competition for electric vehicles intensifies.

Tesla’s most popular models are the 3 and Y, accounting for 97% of the company’s 1.59 million vehicles delivery last year.

In its earnings report on Wednesday, Tesla reported its first annual revenue decline on record, with sales falling in three of the last four quarters. Musk has been trying to shift attention away from traditional electric vehicles and toward a future of driverless cars and humanoid robots, areas in which the company currently has little business.

Tesla is developing Optimus with the goal of one day selling it as a bipedal intelligent robot capable of tasks ranging from factory work to babysitting.

Tesla said in a press release that it plans to launch the third-generation Optimus, its “first design for volume production,” this quarter.

Musk said on the conference call that the S and X production lines in Fremont will be replaced “with a 1 million-unit-per-year Optimus production line.”

“Because this is a completely new supply chain,” Musk said, “there’s really nothing in Optimus Prime that exists in the existing supply chain.”
