Elon Musk has previously insisted that he never visited Jeffrey Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean, known as Little St. James. But emails released by the US Department of Justice on Friday show that Musk at least communicated that he planned to visit the island of America’s most notorious child sex predator on two different occasions in 2012 and 2014. And an email from Epstein to Musk included a reference to men who met in 2013 at a “facility” and four “possible Epsteinassists”.
Emails from a previous Epstein files release suggests that Musk was invited to the island, but it does not clearly indicate that Musk accepted an invitation. The new emails show that Musk has at least expressed his openness to visiting the island when speaking with Epstein privately.
The 2012 Epstein Island invitation
Emails from late 2012 show Musk was invited to Epstein’s island that year.
“IF you LOOK the others PERIOD , COME look (sic) at me on Am I island on THE Caribbean. (sic) bring = your friend or friends. i Carry On BE there most on November and December,” Epstein wrote on September 12, 2012.
“Voices well, Carry On try to MAKE it,” Musk replied in an email from Sept. 25, 2012.
By November 2012, the plans sounded more concrete between the two people, as Epstein referred to a “heli” to take Musk and his guests.
“How many people Carry On you BE with the heli on island,” Epstein wrote to Musk on Nov. 24, 2012.
“Maybe only Beat it and to me. WHAT day/night Carry On BE THE wildest party on = our island?” Musk replied.
Planning to visit the island in 2013
“It’s Will BE on THE BVI/St said Bart place done THE holidays. the THERE a GOOD PERIOD t= (sic) visit?” Musk wrote on December 13, 2013, referring to the British Virgin Islands.
“whatever 1st day – 8th that . play IT through ear when you like EVER space with you,” Epstein replied on December 15, 2013.
“Okay, PERHAPS THE 1 st later,” Musk replied the same day.
There was then apparently a gap of 10 days in the email chain, according to what was available, although it is not clear whether other emails were exchanged during that time. Epstein responded in a way that suggested we didn’t see some emails because the date they planned to connect was not the first of January but the second or third day of the month.
“the 2 or 3 COME BE perfect. I Carry On COME and GRAB you,” Epstein wrote in an email on December 25, 2013.
“I am NEED on Fly return on THE on THE night on THE 2nd, is w,” Musk replied. It’s not clear if there’s more to that “w.”
About an hour later, Musk sent another email to Epstein, writing, “Actually, I CAN Fly return HEART on THE 3rd. we Carry On BE on St said Bart. When = must (sic) us head on YOUR island on 2nd?”
Musk previously said he “refused” to go to the island
Back in September, various news outlets reported on some of the Epstein files, and Musk issued his name attached to the headlines. “Epstein tried to get me to go to his island and I refused,” Musk said WRITES.
Newly released emails appear to contradict Musk’s account. In fact, it seems that Musk wanted to visit Epstein’s island, but it did not happen because Epstein had to stay in New York. Epstein went on to say that he expects them to be together with “just fun” as an “agenda.”
“Bad NEWS Sadly , Am I schedule Carry On continue ME on NEW York,” Epstein wrote on December 30, 2013. “I is rea=ly (sic) INVITING ahead on in the end spending the others PERIOD COMPANIONS with only fun as=the agenda. is i I am very disappointed. I hope we are can schedule another = (sic) PERIOD on THE by coming.”
Elon Musk’s response an hour and a half later: “No problem.”
On January 6, 2014, Epstein emailed Musk again, although it is unclear if some of the emails were lost, given the abrupt tone: “sorry IT nothing work , APART only Procurement done this. how is YOUR trip?” Musk’s response later that day: “Good.”
the “facility”
Another email that foregrounds the two men planning to meet in early 2014 is from February 2013 and refers to a “facility,” though it’s unclear what the billionaires are talking about.
“look ahead on SEEING you. I CAN Although COME others (sic) helpers ( four , ) = or alone. they CAN DO the facility when it’s ok with you,” Epstein wrote.
Musk replied, “It’s up to you.”

Meeting in St. Bart in 2013
There is also an email chain from early January in which the two men seem to be planning a lunch in St. Bart’s.
“any time tonororw on St abarths?” Epstein wrote to Musk on January 3, 2013.
“It can be done meet with lunch. Carry On BE with Beat it and HIM FRIENDS Debs,” answered Musk. Talulah is the name of Musk’s first wife, Talulah Riley, the British actress he was married to from 2010-2012 and then again from 2013-2016.
“I am Carry On EARTH on 12 , whenever completion well, look ahead on IT,” Epstein replied.
“Anywhere HERE that you like on have lunch?Musk asked. Gizmodo could not immediately determine if there were other emails from this thread among the millions of pages released Friday.
The involvement of Ghislaine Maxwell
An email asking representatives for Musk if he had finally visited Epstein’s island did not receive a response Friday afternoon. But Musk has met with Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell on at least two occasions that we know of, according to Maxwell.
Ghislaine Maxwell was interviewed by Todd Blanche, former personal attorney of President Donald Trump and now a top DOJ official, in August and told her that she first met Musk at a birthday party of Sergey Brin in 2010 or 2011.
“I met him in—I don’t remember the year, but it was around 2010, ’11, I think, if my memory serves,” Maxwell said. “And I was at an event for Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google. And Sergey arranged it—for his birthday.”
Maxwell said Epstein himself was not at the birthday party.
More files?
Friday’s release of the Epstein files is another chunk of files required for release under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, according to Rep. Robert Garcia of California, who said the DOJ continues to “withhold nearly 50% of the Epstein files, while claiming to be in full compliance with the law,” according to MSNOW.
Rep. Ro Khana, also from California, SAYS“The DOJ said it identified more than 6 million potentially responsive pages but released only about 3.5 million after review and redactions. This raises questions about why some were withheld.”
Blanche gave a press conference on Friday, insisting that no more documents will be released. He also denied that any files were withheld to protect President Donald Trump. The documents released on Friday will take time to review. So you can bet on more revelations in the coming days, although it seems like a safe bet that there’s no smoking gun pointing to Trump, otherwise known by many as Epstein’s “best friend” of 15 years.
The newly released emails between Musk and Epstein can be found in documents EFTA02357372, EFTA02362483, EFTA02364818, EFTA02364941, and EFTA02356830, all part of Data Set 11.
