Eastern Cape Sunrisers earned bonus points as they beat Pretoria Capitals by 48 points at St George’s Park on Monday night. Quinton de Kock Leading the batsmen and helping his team achieve a solid total.
The victory moved the Sunrisers to the top of the SA20 table with 10 points, while the Pretoria Capitals are still looking for a first win after two games.
De Kock anchors Sunrisers’ batting
In the opening batting, de Kock scored 77 runs off 47 balls, hitting five fours and six sixes. He looked in control from the start, hitting clean breakaways with strong pulls. Matthew Breetzke came out in support of Jonny Bairstow after he was dismissed early.
Bretzke scored an outstanding 52 runs in 33 balls and together with de Kock scored 116 runs in 70 balls. Their collaboration provides the foundation for their game. Jordan Hermann then scored a quick 37 points off 20 balls to help the Sunrisers post a total of 188 for 6. De Kock was later named man of the match.
The capital was in trouble from the start
In response, Pretoria Capitals’ chase never really got off the ground. Marco Janssen struck early and eliminated opener Bryce Parsons. Adam Milne then stepped up and took 4 wickets for 25 runs.
Lewis Gregory removed Dewald Brevis and from that point on, the Capitals’ batting collapsed. Senuran Muthusamy also played his part, bowling Will Smeed well. The rest of the batting line-up fell quickly and Pretoria Capitals were bowled out for 140.
Overall, the Eastern Cape Sunrisers put on an all-around dominant performance in front of their home fans.
