Djokovic will face Alcaraz in the final

Novak Djokovic stunned reigning champion Janic Siner Australian Open In the final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic, 38, won the day’s second thrilling five-set semi-final 3-6 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4.

He is the oldest man in the Open era to reach the final, and battled for four hours and nine minutes to do so, finally triumphing just after 1.30pm local time.

The veteran is looking for an 11th Melbourne Park title and 25th Grand Slam overall, while Alcaraz would become the youngest player to win all four Slams if he wins.

Alcaraz had earlier struggled with the injury in the third set of his match on Friday Beat Alexander Xvarez 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-7 7-5.

Sinner had been the champion in Australia the previous two years but had no answer to Djokovic’s consistency.

Djokovic has not played a five-setter since the French Open in 2024 but his level remains exceptionally high.

Djokovic said: “I’m lost for words right now. It feels surreal to be honest. Playing for over four hours from almost 2am. The level of intensity and quality of tennis was extremely high. I knew that was the only way I had to win tonight.

“He beat me last five times. He had my mobile number so I had to change my number for tonight. I told him on the net thank you for giving me at least one permission.

“It feels like a win already, but I know I have to come back in a few days and fight the number one in the world. I hope I have enough gas to go toe-to-toe with him.”
