Diebring is certainly good enough to play for a bigger club, with Southampton’s season progressing so poorly that they look destined to return to the Championship soon.

Newcastle are building some very promising squad at the moment and Howe has done a great job getting the best out of talented young players like Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Dieblin could be another useful addition to the long-term project and the England youth international would certainly get a fair amount of game time should he move to St James’ Park.

Manchester United would certainly be attractive as well, but in many ways NUFC look more stable now, so might be the better option for Diebring.

Newcastle fans would love to see such top young talent join them and his contract situation seems to make that a very real possibility.

However, this is a huge blow for Southampton as they will need to keep their current squad if they are to build on their recent achievements.
