The message is clear: Watson, who missed all of 2025 with two Achilles injuries, plans to fight for the starting job.

Micah Parsons asked Myles Garrett If Sanders is Cleveland’s answer at quarterback heading into 2026. Even though Watson signed a huge contract, the defensive star isn’t handing the job to just anyone.
“That’s what we’re looking for as a people,” Garrett said. “We’re going to give him a chance to prove who he is as a man. So we’re not going to give anybody that title until they go out and win it. He was the last guy on the field and he showed some, he showed some flashes. So we’re going to give him a chance to show what we can do.”
Browns head coach Todd Monken told reporters on Tuesday that the quarterback competition will continue into August.
