The New England Patriots received a major update on Derek Meyer’s shoulder on Tuesday as the team prepares for the 2026 Super Bowl. The quarterback was injured during the AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos.
Meyer opened up about his health status ahead of Sunday’s season finale against the Seattle Seahawks.

“Derek Meyer said he felt his right shoulder turn when the plane arrived in San Jose on Sunday and he liked the way it responded in practice today,” Meyer said, via ESPN’s Mike Rice.

Meyer was injured late in the third quarter when he fell on his throwing shoulder after being intercepted near the sideline on a 13-yard dash. However, he persevered, leading the Patriots to a 10-7 victory and their first lead on a crucial play with 1:51 left in the fourth quarter.
Meyer completed 10 of 21 passes for 86 yards and rushed 10 times for 65 yards and a touchdown. The quarterback said after the game that he only suffered some bumps and bruises and was glad he had two weeks to recover.
He revealed on Super Bowl opening night Monday that he feels good. Meyer added that he was confident about a normal week of training.

Derek Meyer Led the Patriots (14-3) to the AFC Championship. In the wild-card round victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, he completed 17 of 29 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown. The quarterback then threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns in a divisional round win over the Houston Texans.
New England defeated the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game and set up a season finale with the Seahawks. Meyer passed for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns during the regular season and was the front-runner for NFL MVP.
