American actor James Van Der Beek, star of the film American “Dawson’s Creek” TV star, died Wednesday at the age of 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer Cancer.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith and grace,” read a post on his Instagram page.
Van Der Beek, who was married with six children, announced his cancer diagnosis in 2024.
He was best known for his role as Dawson, the main character of the teenage drama of the same name from 1998-2003. which followed a group of friends living in a small town in Massachusetts.
Although he also had roles in “Varsity Blues” and “The Rules of Attraction,” Van DerBeek never really established himself in cinema as he struggled to separate himself from the “Dawson’s Creek” legacy.

However, the actor insisted that he is satisfied with his career.
“In general, I’ve worn my past with pride and not seen it as something to get rid of,” he told celebrity site Page Six in 2011.
An Instagram post on Wednesday showed a picture of Van Der Beek in a white T-shirt and cardigan. His wife Kimberly also shared it.
“He has much to share about his desires, his love for humanity and the sanctity of time. Those days will come,” the post added.
“For now, we seek quiet privacy as we mourn our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend.”
