The Blues can be pleased with this form, especially after failing to win any of their seven league games before kick-off, but they will be bitterly disappointed not to take all three points against the Knickerbockers.

January signing August Prisco thought he had scored his first goal for the club with an incredible header from a corner kick in the 95th minute, but the result was disallowed.

Although it was frustrating for Birmingham, the referee’s call was excellent as Demarai Gray was offside and interfered with play when Prisk fired a header into the back of the net.

While Max O’Leary may not have been able to save the header without Gray’s interference, the Blues winger allowed the referee to make the decision without his involvement.

Birmingham’s worst performance against West Brom

Despite keeping a clean sheet on the night, Birmingham goalkeeper James Beadle may not be too happy looking back on his performance.

The Brighton & Hove Albion loanee made just one simple save and had an xG of 0.01, meaning most of his work was in possession, which he struggled with.

Biddle’s mid-range and long-range passing was not good enough, so he passed the ball back to West Brom on many occasions, especially when he passed the ball into the opponent’s half.

The England U21 international wasn’t the only player who struggled on the night, though. Marvin Darksh Also struggled at the top end of the court.

Birmingham’s German striker failed to make a positive impact in the No. 10 position as he missed a “great opportunity” with a passing success rate of 61%, a 100% failure in duels and a 100% failure in dribbling attempts.

While his performance was mediocre and he didn’t seem to have enough mobility to play the role effectively, there was someone who performed worse than Daksh and Videl.

Birmingham losers must be dropped

Jay Stansfield should have been ruthlessly omitted from the starting lineup by Davis as he was underperforming while the efforts of Beadle and Daksh looked good in comparison.

Of course, the headlines were that the former Fulham man failed to score or provide an assist and the result was a goalless draw, meaning he couldn’t be a difference-maker.

The England striker has scored just once in his last 15 appearances for the Blues, against Leicester City at the weekend, and he has scored nine goals in 30 appearances in the Championship so far this season.

However, his poor performance against the Lantern Bags wasn’t just due to his failure to score, as his all-around game left a lot to be desired.

Daksh completed 14 passes and tried to link up with his teammates, while Stansfield came off after 58 minutes to complete one of his four passes.

The 23-year-old center also lost 100% of his duels on the ground and in the air, as the Knickerbocker defenders found it easy to beat him physically.

He was even worse than Beadle, who still kept clean sheets and was solid outside of long-range passing, while Daksh helped the team more in the general game.

Stansfield’s failure to provide the team with a focus hurt his own game as he was unable to get his teammates involved, meaning they were unable to create the scoring chances he needed.

Birmingham spent £15m to sign the young striker from Fulham, a bold move following relegation to League One, but he has not performed like a player with the potential to succeed in the Premier League, where fitness will be even more important.

Just one goal in the last 15 games and a success rate of just 23% in Championship clashes doesn’t paint a good picture of how Stansfield’s season is progressing, which is why Davies should take him out of the firing line in a series of games.
