Danica Patrick shared the criticism she received after making brief comments expressing condolences for Lewis Hamilton’s recently deceased dog Roscoe. She said on the podcast that her words, “Prayers for your heart and for Roscoe,” prompted some reaction comments on social media that were called “inappropriate” simply because of her use of prayer and spiritual words.

Danica Patrick has shared a heartfelt message of condolence on social media following the death of Lewis Hamilton’s beloved furry companion Roscoe. The former IndyCar and NASCAR driver and current F1 analyst expressed her sympathy in the comments Hamilton’s post :

“I’m so sorry. 💔 Dogs hold such a special place in our lives. Losing a dog is one of the most painful experiences. Praying your hearts and Roscoe’s peace in heaven at Rainbow Bridge.”

Danica Patrick admits she rarely comments on celebrity posts, but Hamilton’s post resonated with her as a dog lover, especially because Rothkois named after her hometown in Illinois. She said she couldn’t help but be struck by how once “normal” references to religion in public discourse were now sometimes rejected or viewed as forbidden.

She said in Operation Turning Point:

“We used to talk about God all the time. It used to be everywhere. Your creator, all of that, that language was normal and somehow the culture removed it and made it inappropriate. Like me, there was an F1 driver named Lewis Hamilton. He, he lost his dog Roscoe, and I always remember that because I’m from Roscoe, Illinois, and I don’t really respond to a lot of people’s Instagrams or X Or anything. But I responded because animals are like very close to my heart, especially dogs, and I said something and I responded to him and I ended up saying, you know, praying for your, you know, your heart and, you know, Roscoe.”

She further added:

“Anyway, a few people responded and said that last part was completely inappropriate and I thought, what kind of disillusionment, what kind of nihilistic world do we live in that you can’t say pray for something without people being offended? Like, you shouldn’t be saying that.”

Danica Patrick is the first female driver to achieve the best qualifying time in a NASCAR Cup Series race, specifically the 2013 Daytona 500. In that race, she finished fifth, the best position ever for a female driver. She also holds the record for most women in the top ten NASCAR Cup Series (7) and won the Monster Energy fan vote for the NASCAR All-Star Game three times.
