Britain’s High Court has ruled that the government’s ban on the pro-Palestinian campaign group Palestine Action Group, which it deemed a “terrorist organization”, was unlawful.
In a statement responding to Friday’s landmark ruling, Huda Ammori, claimant and co-founder of Palestine Action, said: “This is a huge victory for both the UK’s fundamental freedoms and the Palestinian people’s fight for freedom, overturning a decision that will forever be remembered as one of the most extreme attacks on free speech in recent British history.”
Britain said last June it would ban Palestinian movement under anti-terrorism laws. This puts the group on par with armed groups such as Britain’s al-Qaeda and ISIL, making it a criminal offense to be part of a Palestinian operation.
The government’s announcement sparked a legal battle and criticism from human rights groups, as well as protest.
