Chelsea want to sign Crystal Palace and England centre-back Mark Gay.

The west London club are looking for a replacement for Wesley Fofana, with Enzo Maresca confirming that Fofana could miss the remainder of the season with a serious hamstring injury.

Newcastle made several attempts to sign Guerhy last summer but failed to agree a transfer fee with Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old began his career at Chelsea’s Cobham academy before joining Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021 for £18 million.

Another option Chelsea are considering is recalling Trevor Chalobah, who is on loan at Crystal Palace.

When does the winter transfer window close?

The Premier League 2025 winter transfer window will officially close on Monday, February 3 at 11pm UK time.

The window for most major European leagues – including France (1pm GMT), Germany, Scotland and Spain – also closes on Monday 3 February, but at different times.

Meanwhile, Italian clubs will only be able to conduct business until 7pm on Saturday, February 1, while Turkey’s transfer window will close on Tuesday, February 11.

Further afield, Saudi Arabia’s window closed on 30 January.
