Chelsea ‘Switch off’ moments must be avoided, head coach Liam Rosenier said after surrendering a 2-0 lead. 2-2 draw on Tuesday With Leeds United.

The Blues squandered a chance to move into the fourth Premier League Table Despite appearing in complete control against Daniel Farke’s men at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro’s 24th-minute effort and Cole Palmer’s penalty put Chelsea on course for a win that moved them up to fourth, with Manchester United held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham in the evening’s kick-off.

However, Lucas Nmecha pulled one back from the penalty spot for Leeds, who then claimed a share of the spoils as Chelsea’s sloppy defending led to a scrum from which Noah Okafor headed home.

Palmer then squandered a gilt-edged chance to secure victory as he somehow fired from point-blank range.

Asked to understand how Palmer conspired to miss that chance, Rosenier told a press conference ahead of Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Hull City: “It wasn’t just that. It wasn’t just that. Yes, the balanced view is that 99% of what I see is the game.

“In terms of with the ball, in terms of without the ball, in terms of our defensive set plays, in terms of our risk on set plays, our energy, our courage, our habits, it was very good. Just those moments, those moments to switch off, those are the bits where we need to improve.

“But having said that, there was a lot of good in what we did last night and you can focus on that and make sure it’s better.”

Rosenier returns to Hull

Chelsea’s visit to Humberside sees Rosenier return to where he was manager between 2022 and 2024 before taking over at Strasbourg. Rosenier also played for Hull from 2010 to 2015.

“Firstly, for me, Hull City is very special to me,” Rosenier said.

“My grandmother was a season ticket holder. She died a year after I took that job.

“I think she’s drawn (the FA Cup). I’ve raised my family. I probably need about 20 tickets. The club means a lot to me for a lot of reasons.

“Hopefully we can put on a really, really good show. It’s going to be amazing to be back.

“Without Hull, without the experience of being there as a player and as a manager, I can’t be sitting here. I have a lot to thank the club for. As a player and as a coach, I’ve had some fantastic times there.

“It’s really good to see them doing so well in the league. It’s a great club, great people, great fans, a great city. Going back will be emotional for me.”

Chelsea will not take Hull lightly

Rosenier ruled out Chelsea being able to make wholesale changes against Hull despite a tight turnaround from the Leeds game.

Hull are fourth in the Championship, just five points off the promotion places, and Rosenier will not concede anything as his side aim to progress to the fifth round.

“It’s a tough game. It’s going to be a tough game. I want to do well in this competition,” Rosenier added.

“I don’t see it any different from a Premier League game or a Champions League game. We’re going there with a team that I think will be good enough to win the game.

“I want to take this game really, really seriously. We have to because they are in good form. They are used to winning games now.”
