Jamie Carragher makes the save Tottenham Head coach Thomas Frank points to a lengthy injury list as a major factor behind the Spurs’ struggles this season.
Tottenham are ranked 14th Premier League After a 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday, the result was sealed by Dominic Solanke’s stunning scorpion-kick equaliser. Frank has overseen eight draws and nine defeats in his first 24 league matches since taking charge in north London.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said the side had been hampered by the absence of several senior players, including Frank Solanke, who missed a significant part of the campaign following ankle surgery in September.
“It’s great for Solanke,” Carragher said. “And that’s probably great for Thomas Frank Also, because he can point to this and tell the board and the supporters that he has been without many top players this season. That is a fact.”
Spurs are currently without a number of first-team regulars, including James Maddison, who is recovering from a torn ACL, as well as Rodrigo Bentanker, Richarlison, Mohamed Kudus, Ben Davies and Lucas Bergwall.
Carragher acknowledged supporters’ disappointment with the performance and style of play but suggested Frank deserved time as his squad neared full strength.
“There’s obviously still a debate, and I understand the frustration around the style of football and how poor they were at home,” he said. “But I think Frank will feel that when those players come back, that’s when he wants to make a decision.”
Tottenham return to action on Saturday, February 7th with an away trip to Manchester United.
