Manchester looks set to host a second All-British heavyweight world title fight as Fabio Wardley prepares to defend his WBO heavyweight title for the first time against Daniel Dubois. Now, Carl Froch has named the boxers he thinks will be competing as “favorites.”
Wardley upset Joseph Parker and regained the interim WBO title in October, while Oleksandr Usyk opted to vacate his entire WBO title the next month, resulting in the Ipswich man being promoted to world champion.
Since then, Wardley has been looking for a fight to prove he is a worthy titleholder and not a “paper champion.” Suddenly, he seemed to have found his match in the former IBF champion Daniel Dubois eager to bounce back from Usyk loss and regain world honors.
talking about his YouTube channelFroch spoke curiously before the fight, questioning Dubois’ mentality and Wardley’s inexperience against the division’s biggest fighter.
“It’s a real fight, it’s a fight where I’m going to be thinking ‘What’s going to happen here?’. You give Daniel Dubois, we know how good he is, but when he’s in trouble, it’s difficult for him, it’s almost like the tough times, things get tough, but he looks for signs to quit.”
“Losing to Oleksandr Usyk was no shame, but he (DuBois) is a huge boxer. A big, heavy hitter. Fabio Wardley never really got in there (with big boxers).
“You’ve got Justis Huni, you’ve got Joseph Parker, you’ve got Frazer Clarke, (David) Adeleye, he’s all fought him. None of them are real boxers, are they? For a heavyweight, none of them can really punch hard.”
The Cobra then went on to predict that Dubois could “do some damage” if he competed, labeling him as the “favorite” in the proposal.
“Realistically, he (Wardley) might discover what professional boxing is all about because of Daniel Dubois, and if he gives it his all and enjoys the job, he might end up doing some damage and knocking out Fabio Wardley badly.
“But Fabio Wardley has beaten most of his opponents and has never been beaten himself. I would say it’s a 50/50 fight on paper, but in reality you have to make Daniel Dubois the favorite and a very popular one at that.”
An announcement about the event is expected soon Saturday, May 9th, expected date for Co-op Live Arena Clash.
