Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned as party leader

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that he is stepping down as leader of the Liberal Party. He will remain prime minister until the party chooses a replacement.

I intend to resign as the leader of the party, as Prime Minister, once the party has chosen its next leader through a vigorous national tender process. Last night I asked the chairman of the Liberal Party to start that process. This country deserves the right choice in the next election and it has become clear to me that if I have to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in this election.
