Britain’s second-ranked Cameron Norrie bowed out in the second round of the Rotterdam Open after losing to Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell on Wednesday.

Nori defeated Spanish player Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets in the first round and was eliminated in two sets in a fierce battle with the in-form O’Connell.

Noori, ranked 26th in the world, took a 3-1 lead in the first set with a break of his own, but was broken in the sixth game, lost the match in a see-saw tiebreak, and then lost his serve again at the start of the second set.

O’Connell, who endured two qualifying matches and beat Valentin Royer in the first round, held on to his serve advantage at 5-4 and despite Norrie saving five match points, the world No. 119 sealed victory at his sixth attempt.

Stan Wawrinka Another memorable moment in his farewell season came when he defeated 17-year-old Dutch lucky loser Thijs Boogaard in the first round.

The 40-year-old beat Boogaard 6-4 6-3 in a clash that spanned an age gap of more than two decades.

The result was the 19-year-old Mboko’s third career top-10 finish and her second career WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearance, following last year’s surprise title win in Montreal.

“This is not an easy game,” Swiatek said. “Even in the second and third set, I had to do a lot to win the match against Daria.

“I think I gave her more of a chance. She was using a slower surface here than in the last race and she was pushing harder.

“I felt like I could have done more at times in the first set. Yeah, I didn’t adapt well to the colder conditions and the wind. Of course, that’s a lesson for the next few days.”

Djokovic withdraws from Doha due to fatigue

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from next week’s Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha due to fatigue.

The 38-year-old was due to make his first appearance since the Australian Open but will rest ahead of the North American Tour.

Last month, Djokovic reached his 11th Australian Open final but lost in four sets to world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will dominate the ATP 500 hard-court event in Doha starting on Monday as the top seeds.

Djokovic won consecutive championships in Doha in the 2016-17 season and has a tournament record of 15 wins and 3 losses.

He is next scheduled to compete in the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells from March 1, where he has already won five titles. This is a record he shares with Roger Federer.
