Video shows onlookers confronting a gunman before a deadly ISIS-inspired mass shooting at Bondi Beach. Sydney, Australia, It’s time to start.
Despite their efforts to disarm the gunman, the gunman eventually overpowered two bystanders and killed them, according to authorities.
The bystanders were reportedly later identified as Boris Gurman and Sofia Gurman sydney morning herald. The outlet reported that the Gumans were passing by and saw the attackers getting out of a car. Although Boris briefly gained the upper hand after grabbing the gunman’s rifle, the attacker allegedly grabbed another rifle during the confrontation and shot the couple dead, making them the first victims of the massacre.
“We are heartbroken at the sudden and senseless loss of our beloved Boris and Sofia Guman,” the family said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. “While nothing can ease the pain of losing Boris and Sofia, we are incredibly proud of their bravery and selflessness.”

In the video, Obtained and verified by ReutersAn eyewitness recalled the incident by playing back dash cam footage.
“You see the gunman here – he shoots from here, shoots from here,” the witness said in the video in Mandarin, according to a Reuters translation. “And then you see, this guy goes over and grabs him (the gunman) and knocks him to the ground. By that time, he had grabbed the gun.”
Authorities identified the shooters as a 50-year-old father and a 24-year-old son. The father died on the spot and the son was shot by police and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Australian authorities also said the gunman had improvised explosives and homemade Islamic State flags hidden in his car.
Two people opened fire on families celebrating Hanukkah at Bondi Beach on Sunday, killing 15 people and injuring more than two dozen people. The Australian government is investigating the terrorist attack on the Jewish community.

During the deadly rampage, another bystander, Australian immigrant Ahmed Ahmed, wrested a gun from one of the gunmen. His lawyer said Ahmed did not regret stepping in, despite being “riddled with bullets” and suffering severe pain.
Ahmed’s lawyer Sam Issa told reporters: “He does not regret what he did. He said he would do it again. But the pain has started to take its toll on him.” Sydney Morning Herald. “He’s not okay at all. He’s riddled with bullet holes. Our hero is struggling right now.”
The outlet reported that Ahmed had already undergone his first round of surgery and Issa feared the heroic bystander could lose his left arm.
“His condition was much worse than expected. When you think of being shot in the arm, you don’t think of serious injuries, but he lost a lot of blood,” Issa said.
president Donald Trump Praising Ahmed’s actions, he called him “a very, very brave man” and expressed “great respect” for him.

The Bondi Beach attack was Australia’s worst mass shooting since sweeping reforms were introduced in 1996 following a shooting in Port Arthur, Tasmania, that killed 35 people. Australian leaders pledge Tightening the country’s already restrictive gun laws.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced several proposed actions, including limiting the number of guns a person can own.
“The government is prepared to take all necessary action. That includes the need for stricter gun laws,” he said after meeting the national cabinet.
