Boxer expected to be Shakur Stevenson’s toughest test, ‘guaranteed’ he will be avoided

Shakur Stevenson has been lavished with praise from the boxing world following his latest win and many believe he is unbeatable, but one fighter believes the Newark southpaw will avoid him at all costs.

Stevenson defeats Teofimo Lopez to win WBO super lightweight world title Saturday night.

Days later, Stevenson was stripped of the WBC lightweight belt, and it’s unclear whether he will stay at 140 to defend his new belt or move back to 135 without a title but still a big fight to fight.

World champions in two divisions with plenty of options to choose from Tim Bradley believes WBC super featherweight ruler Oshaqua Foster is the man who can give Stevenson his toughest test.

“I’m going to tell you all, you may not agree with me, but a fighter that can hang with Shakur, I don’t mean beat him, but hang with him on his level, his name is Oshaqua Foster.

“Foster is not bigger than Theo in terms of name recognition, but skill-wise (he is). Oshaqua should be on the same weight list. Oshaqua has a lot of Shakur’s ability at distance and he can also jab quickly from a southpaw stance.

“The last fighter to beat Shakur Stevenson (in the amateurs) was a southpaw. Oshaqua can also transition into an orthodox fighter, and he’s big too. He’s got some size, he’s got some reach, he’s got some pop.”

on the Come Talk to Me Podcast — An interview conducted before Stevenson’s WBC belt was declared vacant — Foster said Stevenson will avoid the 135-pound division because he could move up from the 130-pound division to become his mandatory challenger.

“If he goes back to 135, I will let it happen and he will have no choice. But, I promise you, he will stay away from me. I promise you, he will not go back to 135.”

“I guarantee you, that’s what he’s going to do. Why do you think he’s talking about Connor Benn and ‘I just want the big fight’ so wooing like crazy because he knows if he goes back to 135, then I’m going to push that button and make it mandatory, we’ll see.”

If Stevenson remains at 140 pounds, Cuba’s interim WBC lightweight champion Jadir Herrera is expected to either move up to the official title or compete for the vacant belt, with Foster as a possible opponent.
