Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has said he “can’t switch and change” his style after being booed at full-time in Sunday’s 6-3 home defeat by Liverpool in the Premier League.
Despite conceding two goals more than any other team in the top flight, Spurs are 11th in the table and eight points shy of fourth place, having picked up a point from their last four home league games.
“I think I’ve been really, really patient over the last 18 months, answering the same question over and over again,” Postecoglou said in response to a suggestion that his team could adopt less cavalier tactics.
“If people want me to change my approach, it will not change. We’re doing it for a reason because we think it’s going to help us succeed.”

Tottenham v Liverpool ‘a bridge too far’
Tottenham’s results this season include a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion and a 4-3 defeat at home to Chelsea after leading 2-0 in both games.
They were 5-1 down at one stage during the drubbing by the leaders, although Postecoglou was without 10 players due to injury and illness.
“It was a bridge too far for us, you could tell we lacked a bit of energy and the ability to really compete with (Liverpool) at the same level,” Postecoglou said.
“If people don’t understand the situation we’re in at the moment and the challenges we have as a team and as a squad… I get the idea that people think I should just flip a switch and change and it’s somebody. Way to make us. A different one but it is what it is – I’m just going to continue to focus on trying to make this team the team we want it to be.
“It’s really, really painful” 😟

“In the interim, we have to accept that there will be challenges. who knows Maybe some (fans) actually understand the situation we are in right now.
“It seems that many do not. In terms of what we’re trying to do and where we’re at, I hope they see what we’re trying to build here, because I really believe it’s going to give the fans and the club what they want. But it’s up to them.”
Postecoglou: ‘To judge others’
Postecoglou insisted that support from supporters was “important” and was bullish when asked about his position.
“We’ve had shorter turnarounds than every team we’ve ever played, whether it’s here or in Europe,” he added. “I cannot rest or rotate players.
“If you’re saying that (11th place) means I’m not doing well and I should feel uncomfortable somehow, that’s for other people.”
