The middleweight co-main event on the Zuffa Boxing 02 card featured a victory for Ukraine’s Serhii Bohachuk, who defeated Russia’s Radzhab Butaev via split decision on February 1 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The fight, which was broadcast live on Paramount+, also marked Bohachuk’s first appearance at 160 pounds.
Bohachuk moved up from junior middleweight to compete at 154 after going through multiple weight struggles. Butayev, the former WBA welterweight champion, started the fight with steady output and continued physical training. He found success early on with clean shots on counterattacks and close encounters, and some observers had him ahead on the scorecards in the first round.
As the fight continued, Bohachuk increased his output in the mid-rounds and worked behind combos. Much of the fight was fought at close quarters, with both fighters throwing punches in repeated exchanges. Post-fight punch statistics showed that Butayev landed more punches overall, while Bokhachuk maintained a steady work rate in the second half of the fight. There were no knockouts in that fight.
Round 10 followed a similar pattern. The two sides frequently clashed in this round, with Bokhachuk throwing combinations and Butayev landing counterattacks and body shots. Neither fighter showed any signs of fatigue and the fight remained competitive until the final bell.
After ten rounds, Bohachuk scored 96-94, 96-94 and 94-96 respectively. Two referees sided with Bokhachuk and one with Butayev. The close score reflected the competitive nature of the game, which was fraught with controversy from start to finish.
The victory improved Bohalchuk’s record to 27-3 and represented his first success at middleweight since moving up in weight. Butayev dropped to 16-2 with the loss, a fight that drew a strong response from the crowd due to the constant exchanges and consistent pace.
