In the first half of the contest, both the tightly packed table had little chance of advancing to the upper echelon.
Everton were the better side for much of the second, with Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen forced into a penalty save to deny Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
But it was Brighton who took the lead through Pascal Gross’ 73rd-minute strike.
Gross, who rejoined Brighton from Borussia Dortmund this month, headed home to cap Brighton’s fine run.
Yassin Ayari played in a low ball from the right and after a dummy from Charalampos Kostoulas, Gross beat Jordan Pickford to score his first goal since returning for a second spell with the Seagulls.
But there was a twist in the tale in the 97th minute, Beto pouncing on the rebound while Verbruggen could only parry Jack O’Brien’s shot into his path.
Everton move into the top eight, at least temporarily Premier League Table.
Wolves 0-2 Bournemouth
While there was a late disappointment for a south coast club, Bournemouth made sure they didn’t slip up on rock bottom Wolves.
After stunning Liverpool last Saturday, there was no let up from the Cherries, who are now 13 points clear of the bottom three.
Alli Junior Krupi’s outstanding eighth goal of the season gave Bournemouth a 33rd-minute lead, the 19-year-old finding the net with a superb half-volley.
Wolves fought back well with Tolu Arokodare forcing a stunning Djordje Petrovic save before Joao Gomes hit the woodwork.
And the hosts were made to pay for not taking those chances, as Alex Scott put the game beyond doubt.
Bournemouth’s new signing Ryan did a great job to get to the byline and pull the ball back, giving the Scot a simple finish.
