Ben Stokes: England Test captain undergoes successful surgery after suffering eye injury after being hit by cricket ball Cricket News

England Test captain Ben Stokes has undergone successful surgery after suffering an eye injury after being hit by a cricket ball earlier this month.

The 34-year-old all-rounder posted a picture on his Instagram Story showing his bruised and swollen right eye and cheek, with the caption: “It may not look like it… but the surgery was a success.”

Stokes revealed earlier this month that he was hit in the face by a ball and suffered severe swelling and bruising to his eye, scrapes to his cheek and lip and a bandage stuffed in his nose.

He captioned the picture: “You should see the state of cricket.”

It was later reported that he had sustained the injury while coaching academy players at the Durham Indoor Cricket Centre.

Stokes returned to England after last month’s Ashes tour ended in a 4-1 defeat and his place remains in doubt amid an ECB review.

The autopsy continues, with England manager Brendan McCallum claiming some of the consequences were “not normal”.

Stokes is likely to feature in an early match for Durham in the County Championship before England begin their summer Test campaign against New Zealand at Lord’s on June 4.
