The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is seeking to resume ties with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the 2026 T20 World Cup. After the International Cricket Council reached a resolution with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), BCB president Aminul Islam expressed his intention to “break the deadlock” with the BCCI.
Bangladesh pulled out of the T20 World Cup citing security reasons after the ICC rejected a request to move the tournament out of India. The decision came after a vote at the ICC meeting, after which Bangladesh did not participate in the tournament. Scotland were brought in as their replacements.
Following a subsequent meeting in Lahore, the ICC confirmed that Bangladesh will not face any sanctions for boycotting the 2026 T20 World Cup. The meeting also agreed that Bangladesh would be given the right to host the ICC tournament from 2028 to 2031.

Bangladesh hopes to ‘break ice’ with BCCI during India-Pakistan clash in Colombo
Aminul Islam said that the International Cricket Council plans to hold a joint meeting involving the five Asian Cricket Councils during the T20 World Cup between India and Pakistan. The BCB said this was an opportunity for open dialogue and de-escalation of tensions, calling it an ice-breaker with the BCCI.
“The ICC has made a decision. The main stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan), and for the World Cup India-Pakistan match on the 15th, they want representatives of all five Asian countries to come together, watch the game together and talk to each other,” Bangladesh’s main newspaper Prothom Alo quoted Aminul as saying on Wednesday.
“You can think of it as something like that (an icebreaker between us),” he added.
We will also sign an agreement – Aminul Islam
Aminul Islam said the board would likely draft a detailed memorandum of understanding to ensure all decisions were clearly documented. He added that the agreement would be written line by line to avoid confusion later.
“We will also sign an agreement. The agreement will be signed line by line and will be a memorandum of understanding (MoU) type document so that there will be no uncertainty,” Aminul said.
Similar discussions with the International Criminal Court are more or less complete – Aminul Islam
The BCB president said a similar situation was being handled by drafting a memorandum of understanding to prevent either party from deviating from the agreed terms during the Asian Cricket Council’s annual general meeting in Dhaka.
“You know, earlier, a similar issue came up when we had the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) annual general meeting in Dhaka. There, we also prepared a memorandum of understanding type document so that no one can deviate from the contract in any way,” Aminul said.
“Similar discussions with the International Criminal Court (on the preparation of a memorandum of understanding) are more or less completed,” he added.
