India vs Pakistan 2026 T20 World Cup fiasco is coming to an end. On February 15, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held a meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discuss Pakistan’s decision not to participate in the match against arch-rivals India. A final announcement on the matter will be made soon.
The ICC held an emergency meeting on Sunday with two board members, including ICC vice-president Imran Khawaja and ICC associate member representative Mubashir Usmani, who were in Pakistan to meet PCB president Mohsin Naqvi to discuss reconsidering the decision not to play against the Men in Blue. According to Telecom Asia Sport, the PCB made three demands to the APEX agency.
India vs Pakistan returns to table
As early as February 1, the Pakistani government announced through social media that it would participate in the T20 World Cup. However, it also stated that the men’s team will not take part in the match against India at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The decision was taken to express solidarity with Bangladesh, which was disqualified for refusing to travel to India.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Aminul Islam also attended the emergency meeting between Pakistan and the ICC. Pakistan is reportedly expected to make concessions, but the ICC has made specific demands. Not only PCB, Bangladesh has also made some requirements.
Bangladesh files request to ICC
“Bangladesh is also seeking monetary compensation from the ICC and a global event, perhaps the next Under-19 World Cup in 2028,” Bangladesh’s plea said, sources said.
Sources also wrote, “During the meeting, the PCB president proposed a number of conditions to the ICC, including an increase in Pakistan’s annual funding, resumption of bilateral series in India and handshakes between their players during India-Pakistan matches.”
Pakistan ranks fourth in terms of annual revenue at approximately $34.5 million, behind India, Australia and the United Kingdom. They demanded an increase in the revenue of the apex body. In addition, they also demanded the resumption of a series of bilateral activities between India and Pakistan.
Final decision still awaited
However, the latter decision is entirely dependent on the government’s decision as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) controls it. The last replay of a bilateral series between India and Pakistan was in 2013. The PCB also asked players to shake hands during the India-Pakistan match but the Men in Blue stopped the game to show solidarity after the Pahalgam terror attack.
The ICC authorities informed both parties that their requests would be conveyed to the ICC Board of Directors. However, the final decision on the India-Pakistan match will be taken by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after the Pakistani government expressed its decision not to participate in the tournament.
Naqvi will hold discussions with Sharif in the next 24 to 48 hours and a final decision on the India-Pakistan issue is expected to be made in the coming days. The Sri Lanka Cricket Association has also written to the PCB asking to reconsider their decision as the co-organizers may suffer losses if the India-Pakistan match cannot be held.
