The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which recently made headlines for being canceled from the 2026 T20 World Cup, continues to insist on its stance on changing the venue of the match from India to Sri Lanka due to security reasons. They were removed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and replaced by Scotland.
According to sources in Geo Super, Bangladesh Cricket Board chairman Aminul Islam has now traveled to Pakistan to attend an emergency meeting of the International Cricket Federation, which is expected to be held today. According to reports, the apex body is expected to hold an emergency meeting via video link today to discuss the uncertainty surrounding the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup’s flagship match between India and Pakistan.
Bangladesh Cricket Board and Pakistan attend meeting
The Pakistan government also announced that it would not play the Indian team when it announced its participation in the T20 World Cup. The national government did this to show Bangladesh’s unity in the World Cup as they were the only country supporting their neighbor. The Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to submit any formal notification to the ICC regarding the matter.

In today’s meeting, apart from the PCB, other board members of the council are likely to attend the emergency meeting, including members from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Sources also reported that Aminul Islam will also meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and return to Bangladesh in the evening after attending the meeting.
ICC seeks solution to India v. Pakistan issue
The ICC was supposed to convene due to the continued disastrous defeat in the India-Pakistan match. They are exploring options to reverse Pakistan’s decision and reconsider their stance in the 2026 T20 World Cup against India. India vs Pakistan has always been a blockbuster match for the ICC and the host nation.
The game generates double the revenue of any other ICC tournament. According to reports, the vice-president of the ICC has been assigned the task of negotiating with the PCB on the matter. There were reports that the PCB had made certain demands in order for the tournament to resume after the Sri Lanka Cricket Association sent an official email to the PCB requesting participation in the tournament.
Pakistan PM demands politics taken out of cricket
Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif has demanded that politics be taken out of sports, backing the federal government’s decision to ban Pakistan’s team from playing against arch-rivals India in major ICC events.
Pakistan requires three things to get more funds from the ICC as they have already received the fourth-highest share after India, the UK and Australia, amounting to around $34.5 million. They also want the ICC to launch a series of bilateral activities that have been suspended since 2013.
The PCB has also asked the ICC to resume handshakes with Pakistan players to maintain the spirit of the tournament, which India stopped after the Pargam terror attack last year. All eyes are now on the ICC to find a solution for the India vs Pakistan match. But if the match fails, PCB will face serious consequences from the ICC.
