Arshdeep Singh takes costliest five-wicket haul in men’s T20I history
Ardeep Singh set an unusual record in the fifth T20I against New Zealand. His figures of 5-51 became the costliest five-wicket haul in the history of men’s T20Is, breaking the previous record held by Joseph.
New Zealand got off to a good start in the chase. Ashdeep conceded 17 points in his first over but dismissed Tim Seifert for five points. In the second round, he scored 23 points, while Finn Allen countered with 4 points and 6 points. Allen spiked 80 of 38 balls before being sacked.
The left-arm pacer bounced back strongly late in the innings. In the 12th over, he took Rachin Ravindra for 30 and Mitchell Santner for a duck. Ashdeep completed his five-wicket haul in the 16th over, dismissing Kyle Jamieson’s nine and Daryl Mitchell’s 26 in 12 balls.
Arshdeep Singh plays crucial role in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory
Team India will once again rely heavily on Arshdeep Singh when they defend their T20 World Cup title in 2026. Since making his T20I debut in 2022, the left-arm pacer has emerged as a trusted option in pressure situations.
Arshdeep played a key role in India’s 2024 title win. He ended the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker, taking 17 wickets in eight innings at an average of 12.64. In the final against South Africa in Barbados, he conceded just four points in the crucial 19th over.
India will start the group stage against the United States in Mumbai on February 7. They will then face Namibia in Delhi on February 12 before taking on arch-rivals Pakistan in Colombo on February 15. The final match of the group will be against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.
