Manchester City put pressure on the Premier League leaders.
Manchester City were moved within three points of Armory in Premier League title race As they won 3-0 against Fulham.
After coming through an acid test at Anfield by claiming a late 2-1 win over Liverpool, City had a remarkably easy time against Fulham, which saw another defeat add to their miserable record in this fixture.
City entered the game having won their previous 19 meetings with Fulham in all competitions, the longest run by one side against the other in English football history.
That record was extended to 20 games was essentially all but confirmed by half-time as Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring before Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland put City in complete control.
Fulham fought back from 3-0 down in the reverse fixture in December, which ended in a 5-4 City win, but the prospect of a repeat was never on the cards.
Attention now switches to Arsenal, who will be hoping to re-establish a six-point advantage when they make the short trip to Brentford on Thursday.
Manchester City Fulham continue to dominate
City were in control from close on when Phil Foden saw a volley deflected and then fired straight at Bernd Leno after the hosts found joy down the right.
Mathews Nunes was thwarted at the far post by Leno, but the German could do nothing to stop Semenyo heading in from point-blank range in the 24th-minute opener after Sander Berg inadvertently headed a right-wing cross into his path. Semenyo’s goal was the sixth goal against Fulham in his Premier League career.
Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into a strong save to prevent Harry Wilson quickly restoring parity, but a quick and free-flowing move from City saw them double their advantage as Semenyo played in a superb lofted finish by O’Reilly to beat Leno.
And Haaland gave Fulham a mountain to climb with his eighth goal in as many Premier League games against the Cottagers, his incredible finish into the bottom-right corner leaving Marco Silva’s men with the same task they faced at Craven Cottage.
Despite two chances going begging for Raul Jimenez and Emil Smith Rowe narrowly missing getting a clear touch on a ball across the face of goal, a fightback always looked beyond Fulham.
Indeed, City had few chances to take their foot off the gas in the second half with Haaland withdrawing at half-time. While City failed to win by a more emphatic scoreline and surpass Arsenal in terms of goal difference, they will be grateful for a low-key second half thanks to their remarkable effort at Anfield.
