Arsenal legend Martin Keown has commented on the Gunners’ need for a new striker but says a high-profile target is not the answer.
Towards oxford mailformer Arsenal defender Keown discusses this link with us Sporting Lisbon forward Victor Choukresbut raises a question.
Although the Sweden international has impressed for Sporting Lisbon this season, scoring 26 goals in just 24 games so far, Keown is concerned that he is not quick enough.
Keown even joked that when he was still playing, he thought Geocles wasn’t fast enough!

“(Joe Kress) wasn’t fast enough and he wouldn’t have been fast enough in my era.”
Nonetheless, he also made it clear that new striker signings appear to be necessary, saying: “The players currently on the field need to score goals quickly, otherwise Mikel will reach into his pocket and buy a striker.”
Jokeres moves to Arsenal Will certainly be a welcome move in January for many fans as it’s hard to imagine him not continuing to score at a prolific rate in this team, but maybe Keown is right and there are better options out there .
Aside from his speed, one concern about Joe Kreis may be that he has yet to prove himself in Europe’s top five leagues.
The 26-year-old has excelled at Sporting Lisbon, but before that he was in the Championship with Coventry City, so moving into the Premier League is a real step into uncharted territory.
Arsenal might be better off looking at more mature players at this level, like Alexander Isak, or a talented young player like Benjamin Cesc, who is young enough to still develop and fine-tune his game , to become an elite forward.
