Apple’s next AirPods Pro may offer heart rate and temperature monitoring

Apple is working on the next generation of AirPods Pro, and they may come packing some new health features, according to Bloombergby Mark Gurman. In the newsletter this weekend, Gurman reported that Apple is testing features including temperature detection and heart rate monitoring for the earbuds. For now, Apple knows that the Apple Watch still does the latter better, but the AirPods “are not too far” from their readings, he wrote.

The company is also reportedly reviving the idea of putting cameras on AirPods, a rumor we heard a few times last year. According to Gurman, Apple now considers it “a priority” as it works to strengthen its AI services. However, it will likely be years before any camera-equipped AirPods make their debut. As for heart rate monitoring, that can be seen very quickly. Gurman writes, “The capability may be ready for the next-generation AirPods Pro, which are in early development.”
