Brandon SandersonCosmere’s books, which include his own Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive series, recently picked up on Apple TV.

Sandersonfantasy fans will remember, helped finish off Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time books after the author’s death; The Prime Video adaptation series was canceled last year. Apple TV appears to have a lot of confidence in the enduring appeal of the Cosmere universe, according to the Hollywood Reporterwho broke the news, calling it an “unprecedented deal.”

It also comes “after a competitive situation that found Sanderson meeting with most of the studio heads in town,” reports THR.

It’s unique because “it gives the writer incredible control over screen interpretations, according to sources. Sanderson will be the architect of the universe, writing, producing and consulting, and has approvals,” according to THR.

The trade points to Sanderson’s power as a best-selling author (over 50 million books to date) and his strong fan base as a factor in this level of control. He is a constant fixture at conventions and even hosts his own annual event, Dragonsteel Nexus. He has such a following of his own 2022 Kickstarter, before the publication of four new books, raised over $40 million, setting a new record for the crowdfunding platform at the time.

THR reports that Apple TV is currently hoping to make features based on Mistborn books, while The Stormlight Archive will be a TV series on the streamer.
