Apple’s next major iPhone upgrade will include a new model called the iPhone 17 Air, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
This seems like an obvious way to expand the lineup, given Apple’s success with the Air moniker for thinner MacBooks and iPads (I’m currently typing these words on my MacBook Air), and will be more attractive than the iPhone. Plus or mini.
Gurman wrote that the iPhone 17 Air will include Apple’s first in-house modem, which will reportedly debut with the new iPhone SE in the spring. The phone is also Apple’s thinnest smartphone – two millimeters thinner than current iPhones. So this represents a step towards the foldable iPhone and iPad which the company is reportedly developing for 2026 or later.
Gurman also ran other Apple products that he expects to launch in 2025, including a smart home hub. Not on the list: A new version of the company’s mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro.
