Excerpts from an interview we had with Anthony Joshua a few months ago show that he is a very philosophical young man who appreciates everything he has in life.

Reflecting on purpose, death and the rhythms of modern life, Joshua adds:
“Believe it or not, all of this stuff is a big distraction in my mind. Because in the long run, everything that I’m after and everything that I want to have that makes me feel connected to this earth isn’t that important because I can’t take it with me.
The only thing guaranteed is death. What matters is living life to the best of our ability. Isn’t it crazy how fast life goes by? We will all grow old and one day, the most important thing is to live our lives to the best of our ability. “
He also spoke poignantly about his grandfather’s aging and how it shaped his perspective on what really matters:
“I went to visit my grandpa the other day, and he is very old now. I was thinking that the most important thing for him now is who will take care of him when he is old, because he can no longer really take care of himself.
At a certain stage in his life, going to work was the most important thing. Now he’s nothing for that matter because he’s too old now. “
Anthony Joshua remains in hospital
Joshua miraculously survived the accident and remains hospitalized in Nigeria, with his family, including his uncle Adedamola, expressing shock and hope for his recovery.
AJ responded to treatment. It’s a line the family repeats over and over again. It’s the safest way to show someone’s solidarity without pretending that everything is fine.
“I felt pain all over my body,” Joshua said after the accident.
This statement speaks volumes better than any medical update.
He remains under observation at Duchess International Hospital. His condition has been described as stable, but stable at a time like this only means the damage has stopped spreading. That doesn’t mean the damage has gone away.
His mother, Yeta Odusanya, was allowed to be at his bedside. Others don’t. This detail is important. Hospitals will only restrict access in serious cases. When rest and quiet are part of the treatment.
“We weren’t allowed to see him,” said his uncle, David Joshua. “But from the information provided by the authorities, he is responding to treatment.”
This is something anyone can be sure of now.
Joshua arrived in Nigeria less than six hours before the accident. He travels with two men who are more than just part of his circle. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele are constants. Familiar faces. People who make work easier and travel more comfortable.
They didn’t survive.
Another relative, Adedamola Joshua, spoke of the impact of their loss.
“This has shaken our family deeply,” he said. “While our son Anthony is still alive, two of his friends who came to celebrate with us have lost their lives.”
The words sound heavy because they are clean and unvarnished.
“This is a grave tragedy not only for our family but for Ogun State, Nigeria and the world at large,” he added.
There is no timetable for this grief. There is no timetable for dealing with it. Warriors are taught to push through pain, but it’s not a bruised rib or a swollen eye. This is absence. This is waking up and realizing that two voices are gone.
