Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua will fight in May or June and start training camp in January. By then, the former two-time heavyweight champion (28 wins, 4 losses, 25 KOs) will take four months off to recuperate after losing to IBF champion Daniel Dubois by fifth-round knockout on September 21.
Joshua Eyes May/June Competition
Hearn said the 35-year-old Joshua will have two fights in 2025 and he hopes to fight Tyson Fury twice. If not him, then a rematch with Dubois (22 wins, 2 losses, 21 KOs). AJ still wants to avenge his loss, but if he doesn’t retire, the first priority is Fury.
Understandably, Hearn is pushing for a Joshua-Fury fight as both fighters are aging and can no longer be expected to beat their equals. If Hearn continues to wait, both men will continue to be beaten by younger and even older heavyweights.
While they can still beat many of the top 15 players, there are quite a few heavyweights in the division who have a good chance of beating them.
Hearn says Joshua Fury and Chris Eubank Jr against Conor Benn are two of the biggest fights in British boxing. He may be right. Fans want to watch both games, even if the rest of the world doesn’t.
“May or June. He’s not fully trained yet. He’ll probably be ready to return to training in January,” Eddie Hearn said iFL TV On when Anthony Joshua will next fight. “Right now, you’re going to watch the Dubois fight (against Joseph Parker) on February 22 and you have to see what Fury wants to do.
“We’re in no rush. AJ will have two fights in 2025. One in the summer and one in the winter. If we can’t get Dubois to fight, if Fury doesn’t want to fight, then you have to decide whether to fight someone or not. Waiting for those fights?
“I can’t speak for AJ because of who he’s ready to fight but I know the focus is on Daniel Dubois or Tyson Fury. Of course, he (Joshua) has done it all. If his With Fury on his resume, he beat almost everyone of his era.
AJ vs. Fury in 2025?
Fury has not revealed whether he will fight Joshua. He was devastated after losing a 12-round unanimous decision to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch in Riyadh on December 21. He believed he had won the fight by three rounds and appeared miserable in the post-fight press conference, complaining about his second loss to Usyk.
Despite Fury’s frustration, the money he would earn from his fight with Joshua will lure him back into the ring. He won’t be gloomy for long when Turki Al-Shiekh waves $100 million at him in an AJ game.
“It’s a tough fight for (Fury), it’s a 50-50 fight, but run it twice and see where we end up. The two biggest fights in British boxing are Eubank-Ben Eubank-Benn and Fury-AJ, there’s nothing close,” Hearn said.
