Angie Postkoglu rejected suggestions he was angry at recent questions about his tactics but said he was tired of people trying to “pok the bear.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s tactics came under criticism following Sunday’s 6-3 home defeat to Liverpool. sky sports Commentator Jamie Carragher said after the result that “no one has ever won anything like this”.
But Postkoglu said his reaction was normal given the nature of the defeat, which saw Spurs concede six goals at home for only the second time in Premier League history.
“I’m not angry. We’ve just suffered a heavy defeat and I take responsibility for it because I see the impact it has on everyone at the football club, so it’s a heavy burden on you,” Postko Gru said.
“But I don’t think many managers come back to interviews after being beaten and are happy about it.
“To be fair, I’m tired of the same questions and the same answers.
“I just think it’s almost like people want to poke the bear and see if I’m going to react. Obviously, it’s easier for people to get a reaction out of you after a loss.”
Despite Tottenham’s recent stunning win against Manchester City, they have lost three of their past five Premier League games and have a long list of injury absences, including Gugliel With Mo Vicario, Christian Romero and Mickey VanderVen.
But Postkoglu refused to criticize his dilapidated squad.
“I can’t criticize this group of players in any sense right now,” he said.
“I don’t think it’s fair to anybody because they’re doing their absolute best effort in what they’re doing.
“That’s backed up by the physical parameters that you put in place for what they’re doing. They’re trying to do it the way I’m asking them to do it.
“So how can I criticize that? I think it’s disingenuous on my part. The players are doing their job. They’re doing their best and that’s a credit to them.”
“I still think it’s going to be good for us in the long run.”
Nuno prepares for unknowns against Spurs
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo is ready for the unknown as his side prepare for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are the top scorer in the Premier League this season with 39 goals, but have only kept four clean sheets.
Fourth-placed Forest are in fine form after three consecutive wins and are the first club to prevent Brentford from scoring in their own ground so far this season.
Asked what he thought would happen on Thursday, Nuno said: “You never know what can happen in a game.
“What we saw were good players, a lot of goals scored and goals conceded. We analyzed it yesterday and both the goals and the situations were different.”
“The result was a bit unexpected, but what we are preparing for is a new game, new situations will happen and we are facing a very good game.”
