The dismissal occurred in the fifth over of Adelaide Strikers’ match at Adelaide Oval. Jason Behrendorff hit a long pitch to Jake Weatherald, who was trying to pitch to center field. However, Tai had other plans and positioned himself perfectly in midfield.
Andrew Tye displayed jaw-dropping athleticism and reflexes, making an incredible leap in midfield and reaching out to catch the ball out of the air with his right hand. Tye landed safely with the ball, grabbed the ball tightly and made a wonderful catch to ensure Weatherard was out.
Jake Weatherald’s aggressive shot attempts resulted in a sack of 8 for 8 points, going out of bounds only once. However, it was Andrew Tye’s stellar performance that stole the show in the first innings of the BBL 2024-25 match despite being an expensive bowler for Perth Scorchers.

The Australian pacer conceded 46 runs in his four overs and picked up just one wicket, but the wickets of Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff (2/14) and Lance Morris (2/19)’s combined effort helped the Heat restrict the Strikers to 142/8 at the Adelaide Oval.
Adelaide Strikers VS Perth Heat match highlights
The Adelaide Strikers got off to a tough start, winning 8-58 at home. However, 84* runs between Cameron John Boyce (29 off 22 balls) and Brendan Doggett (47 off 39 balls) The partnership helped them reach a competitive total of 142/8 in 20 overs.
Perth’s chase got off to a poor start, with Matty Hurst and Aaron Hardy losing the match early on, both being sent off for two points by Henry Thornton. However, Finn Allen and Josh Connolly revived the innings with aggressive batting. Connolly’s unbeaten 48 off 35 balls kept the chase on track.

Allen and Connolly combined for 84 and after Allen was dismissed for 50, Connolly continued with Ashton Turner who scored 35 off 18 balls . The duo scored a combined 57 runs to help Perth chase down the target in just 15 overs to beat Adelaide Strikers by 7 wickets in the BBL 2024-25. This is the Strikers’ third consecutive defeat in the ongoing BBL 2024-25 season.
After winning the Man of the Match award, Cooper Connolly said: “They climbed back well. We were delighted at midfield. It was nice to get some points. We were hoping Allen would get points. Very good. Happy to be able to contribute to this. “It’s a team game and we’ll be playing a few games at home. “
