After Aaron Jones, ICC bans another US cricketer ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Isani Vaghela from international cricket, in a setback for the United States women’s cricket team. The decision was taken midway through the 2026 Nepal Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers and she will have to undergo further assessment before being cleared.

The United States defeated Thailand by 28 points to keep their hopes of advancing. Vaghela was a key component for them, taking four wickets in six games at an economy rate of 6.40. Losing one of the frontline seamers in the match will force the management to rejig the bowling plan for the remaining matches.

The 20-year-old was first reported to match officials following Team USA’s match against Ireland in Nepal. The tournament committee later reviewed footage of her next match and found her actions were not within the rules.

“American player Isani Vaghela has been banned from international cricket with immediate effect after the International Cricket Council’s tournament panel confirmed that he had used an illegal bowling action,” a media release said.

Isani Vaghela will remain suspended until fresh evaluation of bowling action

The ICC added that the ban will remain in force until Isani Vaghera undergoes a new assessment. She will only be allowed to bowl again after a review confirms her actions complied with the law.

“The Match Committee reviewed the match footage of Vaghela’s bowling action in the subsequent match and concluded that she had used an illegal bowling action and, therefore, she was banned from international cricket under Rule 6.7 of the Rules.”

“Vaghela’s suspension will remain in effect until she re-evaluates her bowling action and confirms that she can bowl without using an illegal bowing action,” a media release said.

Vaghela can still play for Team USA as a specialist batsman as the ban only applies to her bowling. However, her inability to pitch is a major setback for Team USA as they compete to qualify for the main event.

US cricketer Aaron Jones temporarily suspended ahead of T20 World Cup

American male cricketer Aaron Jones has been temporarily suspended from all forms of cricket. The decision was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) days before the team’s T20 World Cup opener.

Notably, the ICC charged Jones with violating anti-corruption regulations five times. The charges relate to alleged match-fixing during the 2023-24 Barbados Bim10 League, as well as failure to report corruption at international matches.

Jones was one of the standout players for the United States during the 2024 World Cup, but he was forced to leave the team. He was not included in the tournament squad, where the United States will face India on February 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
