
If you’re a horror fan who isn’t already familiar with the work of Damian McCarthy—you’re about to be. The writer-director of the 2020’s Caveat and 2024 that is Strange is about to release his highest-profile film to date, thanks to its star: Severanceof Adam Scott. While McCarthy’s earlier films are absolutely terrifying and well worth seeking out (Strange Achieved the incredible success of making me, a skilled horror hag, scream out loud), Scott’s name will surely attract many eyeballs in Hokumwhich just dropped a scary first teaser.
Hokum announced earlier this year with the added attraction created by the team behind the 2024 standout Night With The Devil. It is distributed by Neon, home of Longlegs and Presence.
The teaser also reveals the connection with its producer Weapons. And yes, there is a witch involved!
We don’t have more details on the plot than previously announced, although the information included in the teaser adds a little: “When reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman (Scott) retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter the ashes of his parents, the stories of the staff of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite haunt his mind. confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.”
McCarthy is Irish, and his previous two features were also set in Ireland. the Hokum The teaser certainly makes it look like the film will embrace its trademark blend of spooky atmosphere, a central mystery with supernatural elements, folk-horror scares, and jump scares that gain it’s when they make you jump out of your seat.
