Former South Africa national cricket team player AB de Villiers talks about the upcoming SA20 version. He said that he, like Dinesh Karthik, hopes that more Indian players will join the league in the future, much like the Indian Premier League (IPL).
SA20 is one of the best leagues using franchise cricket. Apart from the Indian Premier League, if there is one league that is on track both in terms of competition and funding, it is the South African League, which is set to hold its third edition in the coming days.
BCCI policy does not allow its players to participate in foreign leagues
However, what remains unchanged is that Indian players will not be allowed to play in this league either, despite the fact that these teams are owned by IPL owners. This is because one of BCCI’s policies is not to allow their players to play in foreign leagues as they can only play in the IPL.
However, Dinesh Karthik is about to become the first Indian cricketer to play in an SA20 tournament. However, this was only possible after he announced his international and domestic retirement last year. He will participate in the third edition, which will begin on January 9.

AB de Villiers expressed hope to see more Indian players competing in SA20 competitions. He urged the BCCI to allow more players to participate in the league. He stressed that allowing more overseas players would make the league stronger. Speaking to PTI, he explained:
“I would like to see more Indian players involved. We know Dinesh Karthik is coming here this year which is great and will be great for the tournament as well. Hopefully the BCCI will let We will attract more Indian players to join the fun of SA20 in the future.
“We (SA20) can continue to grow in terms of overseas players. This is a big reason for the success of the IPL over the years and I have been following the IPL since 2008. Every year the overseas teams seem to be getting stronger,” said AB de Villiers .

AB de Villiers added that the combination of the best players in the world with Indian players is the best combination. He said it would be great to have Graeme Smith and his team taking the league forward.
“You have the best players in the world and the best players in India and that combination makes for great cricket. So I think, for Graeme Smith and his team, moving forward is just to keep working as hard as possible. Work hard (to get the best overseas talent),” said AB de Villiers.
