David Allen refuses to consider himself an underdog against Johnny Fisher.
The two heavyweight boxers square off in a fight on Saturday’s season bill in Riyadh, titled Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury, live broadcast sky sports box office.
Fisher, “The Romford Bull,” is a popular emerging heavyweight and the undefeated favorite going into this fight.
Allen, of Doncaster, is a veteran of grueling combat competitions. However he told sky sports: “I think experience is a factor. But I’m better than him. To be honest. It sounds ridiculous to a lot of people because they see me not being in good shape.
“Johnny Fisher was very self-aware and very smart. People around him said he was better than he was. He was good, but not great.”
Allen engaged in a boxing match with Fisher, which he believed would affect his opponent’s mind.
“I think he’s going to be nervous because we had a fight and I beat him. He’s seen me on TV for years and he kind of looks up to me. I’ve always been in that position,” Allen said. “Me and David Price have a lot of competition going into this fight.
“When I was boxing Price, I was a fan of David Price and I was boxing David Price and it was a little bit of a shock to me.”
But Allen also revealed that he himself would be “scared”.
“I’ve boxed against really good boxers, but I never thought: ‘He’s going to knock me out or knock me out.’ I never thought about this: If he hits me, I’m going to get over it,” Allen said.
“So that’s really exciting for me. It’s scary to think that I’m going to be in some highlight reel. I train really hard. Mainly for that reason.”
Allen declared: “I’m not a liar. This isn’t a mind game. I’m going to come at him and he’s going to come at me. That’s fine. I’m faster, I’m a very good player.” So amateurish.
“I’m going to treat it like a three-round, three-minute boxing match. I’m going to win all three rounds and I have a chance to take him somewhere and knock him out. That’s how I approach this fight. .
“I’m only going to get the better of him in three rounds and if I get the better of him I’ll take him to something… If it’s more than three rounds we’ll turn it into an old-fashioned four-round amateur Contest.”
Fisher fought back though, telling sky sports: “If I’m not nervous, there’s something wrong.”
But he added: “I wasn’t nervous about the mast. I was 19 when it happened and it was just a mast. Nothing unexpected happened on that mast. I didn’t fall, I wasn’t thrown , I proved to myself that day that I could be a professional boxer because I could take punishment and move on.
“I’m ready for any eventuality. I can box, I can box. So if he wants to throw the kitchen sink at it from the first round, that might be his only option, we’ll see .
“He could take the fight to three rounds. That would be amazing because it would be a tear from the beginning. I love tears.”
