former indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik made a huge contribution Harry Brooke ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup Semifinals. India and England will play in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5.
Dinesh Karthik thinks he will save ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah I won’t bowl with him anymore. He says England captain Harry Brooke’s wicket was more crucial than their opener Phil Salter and Jos Buttler, as they have struggled so far.
“I will introduce Bumrah later. I think the bigger wicket now is Harry Brooke. I will keep Bumrah for them. Bumrah and Chakravarthy in tandem will be a good matchup for Brooke. You need to knock him out early. Buttler and So Salter, I think Ashdeep and Hardik are a good matchup. Salter has struggled a lot against Ashdeep and Hardik is a known wicket-taker. I would start with Hardik and Ashdeep. sky sports cricket.
Brook has been in top form, scoring 228 points in 7 games, with an average score of 32.57 and a field goal percentage of 161.70. On the other hand, Butler only scored 62 points while Salter scored 125 points.
Former England cricketer Michael Atherton reflects on India’s concerns ahead of semi-final. While he reflected that their batting was excellent, he said they looked vulnerable on the pitch and with the ball.
“When I watched India play, they had an unusually strong batting line-up, which I knew wasn’t quite there yet, and Abhishek and the top order were key. But I looked at their defence, and they looked a little bit fragile on the field. They conceded three catches the other night. The bowling, I think, is a good bowling attack, but if one of them doesn’t have a good day, it’s not so obvious with the backup bowlers,” he explained.
India has conceded 13 goals so far in this World Cup, the most of any team. Therefore, defense has always been the biggest concern for the men in blue.
Dinesh Karthik on starting T20 World Cup 2026
Dinesh Karthik addresses Michael Atherton’s point about India’s poor catching ability and explains how the defense reflects the team’s mentality and beliefs. He added that defense is an attitude that must come from within a unit.
“Fielding is a reflection of the team’s mentality and beliefs. If it happens too many times in the same game, then you need to address something. Fielding is an attitude. It is always done as a team. But it comes from within. The most selfless act is fielding,” Dinesh Karthik said.
Atherton also added that India was not invincible. He expressed concerns about the bowling and stressed that the batsmen were not at their best. However, he did mention that England will have to be at their best to beat India.
“From what I have seen, India are beatable. They are a good team. The chasing ability under pressure is very good. But I don’t think they are invincible. Bowling-wise, if you go after two of their five main players, they lack backup options. Some of the batsmen are yet to find their best form. But England will have to be at their best to beat them.”
The last time these two teams met in a T20 World Cup semi-final was in the last World Cup in 2024, when the Men in Blue defeated England and went on to win the tournament.
