Three US F-15 fighter jets were shot down over Kuwait in a “friendly fire incident”. said the US military Monday, but there were no casualties.
The Air Force fighter jets were “mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” CENTCOM said in a statement, adding that “all six crew ejected safely, recovered safely and are in stable condition.”
The planes were flying in support of Operation Epic Fury and crashed in Kuwait amid an attack by Iranian jets, ballistic missiles and drones that the US and its regional allies are rushing to intercept.
CENTCOM said the Kuwaitis have acknowledged this incident and are grateful for the efforts of the Kuwaiti Defense Forces and their support in the ongoing operation.
Ministry of Defense of Kuwait he said earlier on social media that several American warplanes crashed in Kuwait. A ministry spokesman said authorities had launched search and rescue operations and evacuated the crews to hospitals, adding that they were in stable condition.
The planes were shot down on the third day of the Iran war – a joint US-Israeli military operations which Israel called Roaring Lion and the US called Operation Epic Fury. Iran retaliated with missile attacks targeting Israel and its Arab neighbors in response.
US Central Command said on Monday that four US soldiers were killed in conflict. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said it happened when incoming munitions hit a tactical operations center in Kuwait.
The Iranian Red Crescent says 555 people have been killed in Iran.
President Trump said Sunday that the joint military operation would continue “until all of our objectives are achieved,” which could take up to four weeks.
