Robotics company Intrinsic Google will fold it as the company bets on the future of physical AI in manufacturing. The company focuses on software tools to make robots cheaper and easier to use, as well as the use of adaptive intelligence to help robots perform real-world tasks.
Intrinsic launched in 2021 as an Alphabet”“project, part of a portfolio of high-risk and potentially high-payoff startups, Waymo among them. The project now runs as a “different group” within Google where it leverages Gemini and Google Cloud while working closely with the Google DeepMind team.
Described by the company as “the Android of robotics,” offering a universal canvas on which developers can create apps for a variety of robots, cameras, sensors and more. Meta has to continue a similar business model.
Also at the intersection of software and physical AI, the company aims to integrate adaptive intelligence into robots, helping them perform real-world tasks. The goal is robots that “understand, reason and respond to changes in processes and their environment.”
The acquisition adds to Google’s past work in robotics such as Boston Dynamics, where it in 2017. The Google DeepMind team also developed in the past.
