
Zimbabwe defeated Australia by 23 runs in the T20 Cricket World Cup in Colombo on Friday.
Australia won the coin toss and chose to play against Zimbabwe, who scored 169 runs for the loss of two wickets.
The target was set at 170 and a quick succession of wickets in the final stages of the game stifled Australia’s chase. This included Tony Munyonga leaping in the air to beat Ben Dwarshuis with a brilliant diving catch.
Australia were bowled out for 146 runs.
This is the first T20 World Cup match between the two countries since Zimbabwe defeated Australia by five wickets in the first World Cup in 2007.
Travis Head leads Australia in the absence of captain Mitchell Marsh as he is still recovering from a testicle injury. Marsh was injured at Nets on the eve of Australia’s Group B opener and missed Australia’s 67-match win over Ireland.
