It’s been less than three months since we first saw each other Resonant Controlthe sequel to Remedy’s mind-bending, third-person adventure that introduced us to Jesse Faden and the Federal Bureau of Control. In today’s State of Play activity, we see the first extended bit of gameplay from Resonant Control — and the combat is as inspired as ever, even if the setting is new.
As we learned in December, the next controlling the games don’t focus on Jesse Faden; Instead, you will primarily play as his brother Dylan who Jesse has been trying to find for most of the first game. Dylan isn’t in a warped version of New York City trying to track down the Resonant creatures in the game who are responsible for whatever disaster is happening. We already know this, but changing the setting from the Bureau of Control building to a more open city setting should go a long way toward making this game feel fresh.
Dylan’s capabilities are also different from what we saw from Jesse in the original. There is a greater emphasis on combat, as Dylan has a weapon form called Aberrant. You can switch from hammer to blades to different forms, just like how Jesse’s weapon in the first game can morph between different types of guns.
But the thing that stood out to me the most in the short preview was the way NYC completely defied the laws of physics. Buildings and streets only point toward the sky at 90-degree angles — and Dylan’s powers allow him to completely determine which face is “ground” for him.
No firm release date yet Resonant Controlbut that’s not unreasonable – the game was only announced a few months ago. Remedy says they’re still on target to launch in 2026. And, at the end of today’s PlayStation blog post, they promise that “things are only going to get weirder.” Just what I expected!
