Arctic Sentinel: Europe takes the lead in NATO’s Arctic security mission




At Thursday’s NATO meeting in Brussels, US Secretary of State Pete Hegseth was absent, citing concerns about the US withdrawal from the alliance. European allies announced Arctic Sentry, a new mission to bolster security in the Arctic amid Russian and Chinese activity. While analysts see it largely as a rebranding of existing exercises, NATO hopes to appease Donald Trump and allow Europe to take a bigger role in defense.
