Cracks in NATO revealed amid negotiations on Ukraine and Greenland




NATO defense ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss the defense of Ukraine amid a nearly four-year war with Russia and strengthening security in Greenland and the Arctic. Dafyyd Townley, a lecturer in US politics and international security at the University of Portsmouth, notes that Russia’s long-term strategy aims to demoralize Ukraine through strikes on energy infrastructure, while the US pressures Ukraine over potential deals, exposing cracks within NATO. Still, the “coalition of the willing” is helping fill the gaps left by the US, and the alliance is showing a tangible commitment to strategic regions like the Arctic.
